Yes! The DURIAN SEASON is back with a VENGEANCE! I had my first taste of the Durian fruit today and it was really delicious indeed!!!! This year's durian season came a little earlier in my work-town compared to last year, where the weather was not so good, causing it to be cultivated only in June.
For those who are not familiar with Durian, here's a brief introduction to it: ( read more in wikipedia )
- Durian is a tropical fruit, found mainly in Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and certain parts of Indonesia.
- Widely known and revered in Southeast Asia as the "KING OF FRUITS", the durian is distinctive for its large size, unique odour and formidable thorn-covered husk.
- The edible flesh emits a distinctive odour, strong and penetrating even when the husk is intact. Some people regard the durian as fragrant; others find the aroma overpowering and offensive.
- The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust. The odour has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in southeast Asia.
Seriously, the amount of Durians that i ate in this last two years over here is more than what i've eaten in my entire 20 year plus-plus life! For 3 months, nearly everyday i will savour at least, a few Durian seeds! -- And mind you, these Durians are not those of poor qualities -- Durians given to me by my rich landlady, concern patients, regular kopitiam aunties and uncles are Durians that ranged from D24, "Mao Shan Wong", Raja Kunyit, to "Ang He@ Red Prawn", etc!
Just like the famous food traveller & a durian lover as well, Anthony Bourdain puts it, "It's taste can only be described as...indescribable, something you will either love or despise. ...Your breath will smell as if you'd been French-kissing your dead grandmother."
The Durian tree..One has to mind their head when passing through the Durian Farm....You wouldn't want to get hit by a falling Durian & end up in the hospital oh!
The Durian Fruits hanging on the branches....
A Durian Fruit seller....!
.... And The DURIAN that i had today ....
Look at how yellowish it is!! Yummylicious!
And how big is the one pulp seed!!! Very mouth-filling indeed!
And the leftover after chowing down my durian!
And of course, the Pungency does not ends there as well. I'm refering to Malaysia's Thomas Cup 2010 Badminton squad where they played miserably and suffered a trashing & humiliating semifinal defeat ( 0 - 3 ) to China in our own backyard yesterday.
The duel between the World No.1, Lee Chong Wei ( Malaysia ) and World No.2, Lin Dan ( China ) should be an explosive, hard-fought match but instead....Our Datuk Lee Chong Wei lost tamely to Lin Dan, 21-17, 21-8, in just 47 minutes.
The match was so lopsided that Datuk Lee lost the 2nd set in just 10 minutes, collecting only 8 points. I do not know why, but Datuk Lee has this psychological barrier that he needs to overcome. Everytime he meets Lin Dan, it's so obvious that Datuk Lee has this fear/phobia [ or rather Lin Dan exudes his invicible aura to near perfection? ] of losing to Lin Dan. Datuk Lee tends to be defensive instead of being confident in attacking.
The worst duel of all-time is definitely the Beijing Olympics 2010, where Datuk Lee lost the Gold Medal to Lin Dan in 39 minutes, 21-12, 21-8! I can still remember watching the match over a big projector screen at the vicinity of Sungei Wang plaza, where i was just happened to walk by.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei
China's Lin Dan.
And also, the disappointing performance of Malaysia's Koo Kien Kiet-Tan Boon Heong doubles match. The only reprieve was Wong Choon Hann, though we know that he's already quite old, but at least he made a gallant effort. Well, all it's not lost. At least we still have Lee Chong Wei as the the only World Number One who always succumb to pressure in Major Tournaments, but always win in all the tournaments he's in ( except the Major Ones ) to lead Malaysia in the next few years.
Lastly, no matter what, Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Koo Kien Kiet-Tan Boon Heong has made Malaysia Proud many times before and i hope, they will continue to do so in the future. Malaysia Boleh-as always!
And As for me, I can't wait to savour the delicious Durians in this coming few months! I will also control my desire in order of maintaining my bodylicious body too! Hehe. For those who want to try "IT", come over to my work-town and it's my "pleasure" to "entertain" your desires!!! -- Hahahaha!
( Oops! Sorry for the cheesy lines ya! - Love you as always, tHORNY BF! )

Interesting essay but where is the image of a naked guy eating durian with the juice trickling down his perfect pecs? Even if you couldn't find one, the Horny One has perfect pecs, doesn't he? :) - Ian
